RETURN TO ME
SCRIPTURE
"Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning."
-Joel 2:12
No voice should ever take priority over God's voice. However, we often prefer our own thoughts and perspectives, even as we long to hear what God has to say. God's invitation to return to him is crucial because God invites us to return to who he knows we can be in him and by him.
We return to the God who made us. We return to the One who knows more about us than any parent, spouse, or friend. We return to the One whose hopes for us are not far-fetched or impossible. We return to the One who can rest us in the deepest place of our weariness.
As we take our journey to the cross, we rest first. Rest from every undone task, every unmet goal, every pushy voice in our heads.Rest from disappointments and pain. Just rest.
Let the One who created you renew your belief in his unfailing love and unending resources. When you know where true rest waits, your hungry heart will help you find it. Rest becomes the first gift of this journey.
BURNING QUESTIONS
1. What practice or routine helps you return to God with all your heart?
2. What do you need to rest from in order to hear God better?
3. How will you practice resting today?
AFFIRMATION
God calls me to return to him with a hunger for everything He wants to say and supply.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Gentle Lord, I need your rest today. I will listen more than talk when I pray.
