MORE GRACE
SCRIPTURE
But he gives us more grace.
-James 4:6a
We always need more of something: money, closeness in relationships, sleep. I usually need more time. I often put more on my to-do list than I can reasonably finish, and then I pat myself on the back when I accomplish half of my list.
I am slowly learning that God's list for me is shorter and more focused. God reminds us that he is the first more of anything we need. He has a long list of what he will give more of if we ask. He loves giving more insight, discernment, courage, restraint, and wisdom (see Philippians 1:9). Often we don't ask for what he says we can have more of, and then we live with unmet needs unnecessarily.
God has never changed a clock to give us more time. He won't tell the dark to wait a little longer so we can get more done. But he will give us more focus. He will help us set good priorities. He will give us what we need to accomplish his will. If God's more isn't enough to complete what we need to do, maybe we should listen more closely and make fewer lists.
BURNING QUESTIONS
1. Where do you need more of God's insight to set today's priorities?
2. Where do you need to ask more from God before you ask for more of anything else?
AFFIRMATION
My resourceful God knows how to give me what I need the most.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
God of more, choose what I need more of today so that I may experience your incomparable more!
