WE NEED MORE HELP

SCRIPTURE
He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again.
On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.

-2 Corinthians 1:10

We live in a hopeless culture. Post-pandemic, we have lost what we believed would never change. We understand "tentative" in a way we never wanted to. We've collected more maybes about a future we can't predict. We've also collected more fears. What we believed was permanent and untouchable has slipped through our fingers.

We need hope that is firm and unchanging. It won't come from our culture, our politicians, or our protests. It comes the same way it came more than two thousand years ago from God's great gift through Jesus. God didn't send Jesus to us as a theory, a construct, or a premise. Hope came as a person to be our only unchanging hope in a changing world. God knew we couldn't live victoriously in this broken world without hope, so he planted his hope in us when we joined the family of the redeemed. We must allow his hope to grow like a stem looking for light. Then this gift becomes a lifeline. Living in his hope means that nothing happens to us or around us that can steal our unfailing hope.

How can we rediscover how the hope that Jesus brought changes our perspective and influences our attitudes? How can God's hope help us stand firm in our broken world? We fix our eyes on Jesus instead of the bad news on television because God's got the whole world in his hands. We remember to live the promise that God will meet all our needs because God's got us! We wait for the answer he brings because God's got our future! We rehearse the truth that the One who lives in us is greater than anything or anyone in the world. That's hope with a capital H, and we find that hope nowhere else but in Jesus.

God's people should be hope carriers who demonstrate what it looks like to live in hope, no matter the circumstances. The world will still look dark. Yet if we can be a candle of hope and put all our candles together, we can make our corner of the world brighter.

BURNING QUESTIONS
1. How can you live with eternal hope in today's changing world?
2. Who needs you to be a carrier of hope in order to share where your hope comes from?

AFFIRMATION
I can share hope in my world as God shares his hope with me.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
God of all hope, empower me to share your hope anywhere I sense hopelessness.
