A Consuming Fire-February 21, 2026

JUST COME

SCRIPTURE
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
-Matthew 11:28

Rest is the biggest unmet need in our get-it-done culture. We push and exhaust ourselves with the useless goal of finishing what we think we need to get done.

Jesus isn't inviting us to a nap--at least not most of the time. He is inviting us to hear his heart. He whispers this invitation. Maybe that's why we don't hear it--because it gets drowned out by louder voices.

At the beginning of this journey to the cross, we must be more determined to follow his ways. For example, Jesus was never in a hurry. Interruptions didn't throw him off. He accepted them as part of his Father's gifts of the day. He was present for people who needed him. He didn't multitask or overthink productivity.

When Jesus asks us to turn over our troubled minds--including our can't-finish lists--to him, what prevents us from obeying? What has such a hold on us that we aren't eager to answer this invitation? Are we so enslaved to productivity that we add Jesus's call to the end of our list, in case we have time to spare? Isn't that backward?

Find one day to turn it around. Start your day by giving Jesus everything that has you uptight and worried. Let Jesus rest you with his commanding peace and presence. Then go into your day letting him give you one task at a time.

Just come. His invitation will never go away until you do.

BURNING QUESTIONS
1. What part of Jesus's invitation speaks to you today?
2. How will you answer him?

AFFIRMATION
Jesus has rest for me. All I must do is come.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Ever-speaking Jesus, help me ignore any voice--especially my own--that prevents me from answering your invitation.
